Solar / Margazhi Garbottam for rainfall season 2022

As I enter the 7th year of observation of the rainfall features as part of the 9-year long research, I am presenting the data chart for noting down the Solar Garbottam that starts tomorrow, the 29th of December and ends on the morning of 11th January 2022.

To recap the basic features, this Garbottam is observed for the duration of the sun’s movement through the star Pūrvāṣāḍhā (Pooradam). Every degree crossed by the sun in this period indicates the nature of rainfall for each fortnight of the sun’s movement starting from Arudra in June to Moola in December. This means the entire period of SWM and NEM can be judged by the nature of clouds, wind, drizzles and rainfall witnessed in this Pūrvāṣāḍhā period.

The earliest reference to the observance of this Garbottam appears in the Valmiki Ramayana. Needless to say, this Garbottam period has been very popular throughout India for thousands of years. The observation is valid for one’s own location. So, we must have people observing nature at least for this period of 13 and a half days to judge the rainfall prospects in the upcoming season, in that place

Though it pays well to observe Garbottam on a day-to-day basis for six months starting now, meticulous observation of this 13-day period alone fetches a fairly good idea about the overall rainfall season of 2022.  In my observation so far, there is a high degree of reliability of this Garbottam – to the extent of 90%.

The basic features of what one should observe is given in this link https://jayasreeweatherblog.wordpress.com/2017/12/31/how-to-observe-garbottam/

Some salient features:

Foggy days in general and dense fog in the morning or night ensures good rainfall later. The heavy rainfall at Chennai in 2021 is found related to heavy fog in the corresponding days during Solar / Margazhi Garbottam.

Sky getting overcast very often in these 13 days is good for the rainfall season later.

Light drizzles help greatly for a bountiful season later, but there should be no rains now. The expected rainfall in the next few days mars the SWM season. If on the other hand the rainfall is reduced to drizzles as was witnessed today (28th December 2021), it is very good for the corresponding fortnight later.

A cursory look at the planetary movement for the entire year of 2022 shows the arrival of monsoon on time, with rains starting from 22nd May. The Sun moving ahead of all the planets right from the beginning of the season shows good rainfall. Compared to SWM, NEM will be far better in 2022. By the end of December 2022, Mars comes in the lead indicating hot and dry 2023 which will be discussed later.

Detailed planetary indicators for rainfall 2022 will be posted in January 2022.

In the data chart for the current Solar / Margazhi Garbottam, note down the time duration of the Garbottam noticed. Roughly 2 hours of Garbottam now is equal to one day later. So Garbottam for 10 to 30 minutes now at a stretch is good for good amount of rainfall on the corresponding date later. Bunches of cloud crossing the mid sun very often is a good feature to note down now. Even overcast days are good, but it should not rain now.

As far as NEM is concerned, that last 4 days of this Garbottam are very important. This time, starting from January 5th, the solar Garbottam must go on well with no spoiler in the form of rainfall to ensure good NEM in 2022. There should be abundant cloud movement.

This year the moon is passing through favorable stars which I have shown in red. Good Garbottam on those days ensures good rainfall later.

Swati is shown with (-) mark on 29th. Generally Swati will be windy which is not a good Garbottam feature. Deep conjunction of Mercury and Venus at zero degree Capricorn on 29th shows rainfall and not Garbottam. Anyway observation of what happens on that day enriches our knowledge.

Other conjunction marked in green – Jupiter + Moon on the 9th day and Sun+Venus on the 12th day are good provided Garbottam also happens.

The overall picture shows good transits in this Solar Garbottam period. Only cloud conditions must be helpful with no overdose by way of rainfall.

  3. Thank you.
Except day time and lagna, other features are good. Sun’ s direct trigger can be seen. Sun also comes in the lead of all planets from 22nd May onwards. So rainfall from cyclones and Veppa Chalanam rains possible.
