Solar / Margazhi Garbottam results for Chennai 2023

The result of the Solar Garbottam observed in the month of Margazhi this year (Shubhakrit) is being presented here. This was the period when the Sun was moving across the star Purvashadha (Pooradam). This Garbottam gives the preliminary idea of the entire rainfall scenario covering both SWM and NEM. This is applicable to the location of observation, that is, Chennai in the present case, but reflects the overall rainfall monsoon season for the year 2023.

The data collection chart was earlier presented here: https://jayasreeweatherblog.wordpress.com/2022/12/27/solar-margazhi-garbottam-for-rainfall-season-2023/

This year the Garbottam period looked promising with foggy mornings, generally overcast sky and drizzles, though there were reports of isolated rainfall in some pockets of Chennai. Since it didn’t rain in my location of observation, I counted it as good garbottam.

However, towards the last a few days of the solar Garbottam period the Garbottam features were practically nil thereby indicating failure of NEM from mid- November onwards.

There are two conflicting features right from the beginning of the year.

One, the planet Mars continues to be in the lead of all the planets throughout the year. Whenever Mars is in the lead it indicates less rainfall and hot conditions.

Two, the closeness of the two rain-causing planets namely Mercury and Venus, competes with Mars in the onward march within close degrees right from July to September. This period is aided by four  planets (Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn) starting retrograde motions which indicate cyclone-induced rainfall. The closeness of Mars with Venus in this period do match with this kind of climatology by indicting interplay of heat and precipitation together.

The following is the period of closeness of Mercury and Venus indicating rainfall. One can find that rainfall is not indicated in November and most of December.

Mercury – Venus closeness period in 2023

This chart is applicable for the whole of India. Pre-monsoon rainfall is indicated. The onset of SWM appears subdued.  Rainfall picks up only in July. Until then Mars is on clear lead of all the planets.

Once July starts Venus starts towing behind Mars but is not able to cross it. While this combination goes on, the four planets (already mentioned) start their retrogression one by one, indicating cyclones. The earliest starts with Saturn turning retrograde on 17th June. That is likely to be the first major rainfall triggering event of the year.

The above chart is found reflected in the Solar Garbottam observation for Chennai.

The chart is given below. The good rainfall period is highlighted in green. The dry period is shown in red.

Detailed prediction based on planetary yogas will be posted soon.
